Body weight

Lie on your belly on the ground. With your arm fully extended (like Superman), simultaneously lift the right arm and the left leg and keep the hip bone on the ground. Repeat with the left arm and the right leg.

Variable resistance machine

Use the lower back extension machine. Sit back into the seat before starting. Be careful to stay within the recommended range of motion for a back extension (20 to 45 degrees).

Free weights

Using a back-extension bench, flex the spine 20 to 45 degrees and then extend the lower back into an upright posture.

Stretch

Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Gently pull one knee toward your chest until you feel a stretch in your lower back. If you are comfortable, you can put your hands behind both knees, pull them to your chest, and hold.
