Q: How do I use Oxygen absorbers? A: Simply remove oxygen absorbers from their vacuum-sealed pouch, being cautious not to puncture, and quickly add them to your filled bag. Use the zipper closure and then heat seal. A zipper-only seal will not prevent all oxygen from returning. A heat seal is highly recommended for long-term items.

Q: How long does it take for Oxygen absorbers to work? A: Typically about 4 hours, but we recommend checking at the 24-hour mark.

Q: Why are the bags not shrinking like a vacuum seal? A: Air comprises roughly 21% percent oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Nitrogen still takes up space, just like oxygen but is chemically inactive. Oxygen absorbers only remove the oxygen. The Mylar bags should shrink up some but will not usually have a “vacuum-sealed” appearance.

Q: How many Oxygen absorbers should I use? A: The simple answer is 1 per bag. 1 300cc Oxygen absorber is recommended per Gallon. The largest bag in the kit is a Gallon; therefore, you only need one. However, this kit includes 30 extra, so you can double up on the Gallon bags or save them for reusing bags later.

Q: How should I store extra Oxygen Absorbers? A: If you have opened the vacuum-sealed bag, store the remaining in an airtight container like a mason jar or a heat-sealed ½ pint-size mylar bag provided.

Q: How can I test my seal? A: Visually inspect every bag before use for damage. After sealing, give the bag a gentle squeeze to listen for air. If you hear air, try sealing again to fix the leak. If you are concerned after the 24-hour mark, repeat the process while adding a new oxygen absorber.
